An author of an X3D world can tailor its behavior through the use of scripts and external programs. This component defines a standard set of functions which are made available by a browser supporting this component and a set of services which can be used by the author to access the scene graph while it is running.

The provisions of this part of ISO/IEC 19775 form one component of a consistent set of functionality as defined in Part 1 of this International Standard.
