X3D规格进入ISO的最后审议阶段
2002年12月26日，Web3D联盟宣布，X3D标准的最终审议草稿(FCD)已经提交给 ISO/IEC JTC1/SC24，X3D标准进入最后审议阶段。按照ISO组织的审议过程，X3D标准可能在2004年中成形(约18个月后)。X3D很有希望成为新的万维网上使用的三维格式标准。

除了已经提交的ISO/IEC 19775 FCD，X3D Task Group 不久还会完成并提交 ISO/IEC 19776 和 ISO/IEC 1977 的FCD。

- X3D编码标准 ISO/IEC 19776, 定义了X3D文件的编码格式：包括传统的VRML编码，XML编码，二进制编码格式。

Hi --
It is with great pleasure that I announce the forwarding of the Final
Committee Draft of X3D to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC24 for registration as an FCD
and for FCD ballot circulation. The FCD text is now available at:
http://www.web3d.org/fs_specifications.htm
Both on-line access as well as a zip file for local access is available. This text represents the culmination of several years of work by many contributors. It is intended to herald a new maturity in 3D standards for the World Wide Web.
In addition to the X3D FCD just posted, the X3D Task Group is also
developing the following:
- An X3D Encodings standard, ISO/IEC 19776, that will initially specify an XML encoding as well as a Classic VRML encoding. A third binary encoding is expected at a later date.
- An X3D Language Bindings standard, ISO/IEC 19777, that will specify bindings of the Application Programmer Interface defined in Part 2 of ISO/IEC FCD 19775 to the ECMAScript and Java languages. Additional language bindings may be developed as the need arises.
Candidate FCD text for these two standards is nearing completion. A preliminary draft is expected to be posted in early January for a two week review. Comments received on this preliminary draft will be used to produce the actual FCD text that will be submitted to ISO when ready.
Please review the X3D FCD text that has just been posted. There is a feedback link for comments at the URL above. All input received will be considered as input to the official Web3D Consortium comments that will be submitted to ISO/IEC JTC1/SC24 during the ballot period.
I will be happy to answer any questions. However, technical comments on X3D should be submitted using the feedback mechanism provided. This will ensure that all comments are tracked and considered.
